Basics of Oil Spill Response (2 Hours - 2 Days)
This course examines the techniques for containing oil spills, protecting near-shore areas, and recovering oil from the waters surface. The recovery of oil on water is of particular importance to the overall response function. Timely response actions may minimize the amount of oil that impacts sensitive shoreline areas. These shoreline areas are often rich in resources, easily damaged and expensive to clean. It is therefore necessary that responders clearly understand what is involved in a recovery operation, the selection of the right equipment for the particular spill circumstances, and the monitoring of the equipment's use to maximize it's effectiveness.
Train the Trainer Course (1 Day)
The Oil Spill Response Train the Trainer Course provides the framework for an internal oil spill response-training program. At the end of the course, Trainers will be equipped and able to conduct two-hour Basics of Oil Spill Response course. Course participants receive a comprehensive package of training materials and an in-depth training session. In addition to covering the materials to be presented in the two-hour session, the Trainers Course will include a variety of modules (described below) designed to provide perspective and a more comprehensive understanding of oil spill response.
